MOSCOW, Feb 21 (PRIME) -- French energy company Engie has initiated an arbitration case against Gazprom Export, Gazprom’s export, at the beginning of the fourth quarter of 2022 over non-deliveries of natural gas, Engie said in a report on Tuesday.
Engie initiated the case because Gazprom Export supplied significantly less gas as of mid-June 2022 as compared with the contracted amount and later stopped all deliveries following contract disputes between the two companies.
The French company wants the Russian gas giant to pay the forfeit penalty and compensate losses that Engie suffered because of Gazprom Export’s failure to fulfill its liabilities.
Western media reported in June 2022 that Gazprom cut supplies citing a force majeure clause, but the French company contested it and held back some of its payments to the Russian company to compensate losses. Gazprom Export stopped supplies to Engie completely from September 1, 2022 because the French company did not pay for July in full.
